Bionaire BW2300 Twin Window Fan With Remote Control

After first installing a hydroponic exhaust fan in my new hydroponic grow tent, i then needed to find a suitable hydroponic intake fan in order to complete the air circulation cycle for my new hydroponic strawberries.

After researching a few different fans, i settled on the Bionaire BW2300 Twin Window Fan with Remote Control! My review of the Bionaire BW2300 is below:

What Is The Bionaire BW2300 Twin Window Fan With Remote Control And How Does It Work?

In essence the Bionaire BW2300 a fan that brings in air from the outside to the inside. They can be placed in windows or walls, greenhouses or like me you can place it in the canvas of your hydroponic grow tent.

Why do you need a fresh air intake fan for hydroponics?

I’m sure you’ll already know the answer to this unless you’re a complete novice to hydroponics but for those who don’t know I’ll explain.

All plants need CO2 to survive, it’s like food to them. Within hydroponic tents or greenhouses CO2 can run out very fast as the air becomes depleted. Because of this you need to constantly recycle the air. We do this by using an exhaust fan to get rid of the depleted air and by also using an intake fan, to bring fresh CO2 rich air back inside.

The intake fan for hydroponics also serves to cool the air down too, you’ll have full control of the ambient temperatures with the two fans operating in conjunction.

This is called the “hydroponic air circulation cycle” a term I’ve invented myself.

As we know, hot air rises so it’s important to keep your extraction fan as high up as possible. However your intake fan can be kept at any level, it doesn’t really make a difference. Having said that, some people like to keep it at the level of the bulk of your plants, while others like to keep it at the bottom and facing the direction of the extractor fan in order to aid the circulation.

The Bionaire BW2300 has two fans! You can use them both for air intake or even one for intake and one for exhaust. You could even buy two of these and use one fan with both fans for intake and the other one completely for exhaust. This is a great positive to this product.

Things To Look For In A Hydroponic Intake Fan

Does it have a thermostat?

The vast majority of intake fans do not have a thermostat as part of the fan. For the purposes of hydroponics, it’s extremely handy that the Bionaire BW2300 does indeed have a thermostat. This means we can set it to turn on and off at certain temperatures. So for example with strawberries, you can have the ambient temperature to be between 50 – 65 degrees F all the time and without having to tinker with anything.

I always used to do this manually, turning on and off my fans according to the reading on a thermometer. Now there is no need, it makes my whole hydroponic system much more automated.

Is it quiet?

It’s always best to have a fan that doesn’t make a constant humming noise. Of course if your hydroponic system is kept out of the way like mine is in my basement and greenhouse then the noise won’t make much of a difference to you.

In any case, the Bionaire BW2300 is super quiet, it doesn’t make a sound which is great.

What Others Are Others Saying About The Bionaire BW2300?

The Bionaire Bw2300 has received 4.5 stars out of 5 on Amazon, here are some of the reviews to date:

  • This is my second purchase of the Bionaire BW2300. Just a little more expensive than others but you are able to control both intake and exhaust half & half with the remote.
  • The Bionaire BW2300 is quiet and powerful. Great features. Set temp and forget about it. Goes on or off when it hits the set temp. Heavy duty construction, thinking of buying another one.
  • I could not be happier! The Bionaire BW2300 is quiet and packs a mighty motor. The features are astounding. Last night I slept with it on the thermostat, never even heard it turn off and on.
  • I’ve pretty much had this thing running non-stop in a window since I got it. The fans are powerful and draw plenty of air either in, out, or through an exchange.

Any Complaints?

One reviewer complained that one or two bugs had been sucked in through the fan.

Another one thought the fan was a little too loud, however I’ve certainly not found this.

Another reviewer stated that he didn’t think the thermostat was accurate. I’ve checked mine with my thermometer and i can at least speak for my fan that it is indeed accurate.

Where Can You Purchase The Bionaire BW2300 Twin Window Fan With Remote Control?

You can buy the Bionaire BW2300 from many online retailers, however the cheapest place I’ve found it is Amazon.
